Canceled by COVID-19: Information for CPD Professionals

By Ken Korber

The evolving nature of COVID-19 means information is changing rapidly. We encourage you to reach out to individual organizations and/or conference planners to get the most up-to-date information about any accredited educational initiatives.

When the American College of Cardiology canceled its annual scientific sessions, scheduled for March 28-30 in Chicago, because of the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), it sent ripples across the continuing education arena.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many live healthcare CPD events. As a result, the upcoming Alliance Industry Summit (AIS), scheduled for May 4-6 in Philadelphia will not be held as scheduled. The Alliance Board is monitoring the situation and considering whether outright cancellation, postponement or an alternative delivery format is the best course of action. We will keep you informed of the path forward as soon as possible.

The Alliance believes it is important for our membership to be aware of the cancelations that may affect our efforts within the continuing professional development (CPD) space. In addition to AIS, the list below is a sampling of events that have been affected by COVID-19 outbreak.

As is typically reported, the “difficult decision” to cancel a CE conference is made not only in consideration of information and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), but also because institutions are increasingly putting travel restrictions on personnel (ie, faculty and attendees).

Again, we encourage you to reach out to individual organizations to get the most up-to-date information about any accredited educational initiatives.
