New AMA Platform Helps Physicians Find, Track, and Report CME

American Medical Association (05/14/19) O'Reilly, Kevin B.

The American Medical Association's (AMA) new AMA Ed Hub platform is an online educational portal that health professionals can use to earn, track, and report continuing medical education (CME) activities encompassing clinical, practice-transformation, and professionalism subjects. The platform includes CME activities from sources ranging from JAMA Network's JN Learning to the STEPS Forward practice-transformation modules, offering a centralized resource for users to remain current with medical practice while relieving them of headaches typically associated with CME reporting. "We want to make learning and the process of obtaining credits for that learning as effective and as streamlined as possible," said AMA President Barbara L. McAneny, M.D. She noted the platform will allow doctors "to easily find education that fits their practice needs and ultimately leads to better health outcomes for patients." The computer-, tablet-, and smartphone-accessible tool also supports CME activities from the American College of Radiology (ACR), which is the first medical specialty society content partner to offer education on the platform. Health professionals can pinpoint, enroll in, and claim credit for ACR activities on AMA Ed Hub as well as download a branded ACR CME certificate upon completion. All completed activities will be tracked and displayed in participants' AMA Ed Hub transcripts, and the platform automatically reports CME credits earned to select medical licensing boards.
